About Lisa
The video clip below is an interview I did some years ago when I was Clinical Manager of South Pacific Private, a leading private treatment centre in Sydney. I am describing the model of treatment used at the Centre which you may find interesting. I do incorporate much of this philosophy in my own work with clients.
Therapy is not a “one size fits all”. No two clients, couples or families is the same, and the modalities I use largely depends on the issue at hand, and the person/people I am treating. I use a variety of modalities in a psychodynamic approach. I have a passion for neurobiology and am keenly aware of its place in our responses and communication patterns.
As you will hear in the video, my accent is described as “confused”! I grew up in the US, South America and Canada before coming to rest first in Hong Kong (where I married,) then in Australia in 1987 (where I had my two children).
I completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Canada and, after a decade in the corporate world, returned to the Social Sciences to study counselling here in Australia. I began private practice 15 years ago and worked concurrently at South Pacific Private as a therapist and family therapist until 2006. I then took on the position of Clinical Manager at South Pacific for the next three years before returning to full time private practice in 2010.
At the moment, I split my week between my city and suburban practices working with individuals, couples and families and also supervising students of counselling and other clinicians.
The world of psychology/counselling/psychotherapy is becoming more exciting all the time, with new advances in research, neurobiology and understanding of “the human condition”. It is with this in mind that I commit a large proportion of my time to ongoing professional development in learning and supervision with practitioners world wide.
I am a Clinical Member of the Counsellor & Psychotherapy Association (CAPA) and a Registered Member of the Psychotherapist & Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA). I hold Level 1 Certification with The Couples Institute in Menlo, California and a Level 1 Certification in Brainspotting.
